Welcome
Hortense Adelaide Quimby took over management of her family's Cold Spring Camp in 1919 after her father's passing. Over the next 50 years, she built the small operation on the shores of Forest Lake in Averill into one of Vermont's premiere summer resorts. In 1965, she sold the camp to a group of regular guests, who continued to operate it as Quimby Country. It is still in operation today under private ownership. Over its more than a century of operation, the resort has been a place of community and tradition. These scrapbooks represent generations of Quimby families and their activities, and came to the Vermont Historical Society digitally in 2022. Longtime Quimby visitors are in the process now of tagging them with information so that they may be incorporated into VHS's collections with full context.
